Amazon announced on Monday evening that it had resolved a major technical failure that affected its cloud computing division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), after a massive outage disrupted numerous websites and applications around the world — including Snapchat, Facebook, and Fortnite.
In a statement published on its official website, the company said the issue had been “fully mitigated”, noting that its technical teams had managed to identify the root cause of the disruption and accelerate the recovery process.
According to the monitoring platform Downdetector, the outage also impacted the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase and the AI company Perplexity AI, in addition to many other platforms relying on AWS infrastructure.
The disruption triggered a wave of user complaints across various regions before Amazon confirmed that its cloud services had returned to normal operation worldwide.
AWS is one of the world’s largest providers of cloud computing services, used by thousands of companies and websites to power their applications and online servers.
