The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced on Tuesday evening that the current day marks the completion of the month of Shaaban, and that Wednesday will be the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, following the official confirmation of the sighting of the crescent moon.
The official announcement came after the established procedures for moon sighting were carried out, with the competent authorities confirming the validity of the legal sighting, thereby declaring the beginning of Ramadan for the current Hijri year.
Meanwhile, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, and Japan announced that Thursday will be the first day of Ramadan, following the crescent sighting and the issuance of official results by the relevant religious authorities.
For their part, the Sultanate of Oman, Singapore, and Turkey had previously indicated that Wednesday would complete the thirty days of Shaaban, and that Thursday would mark the beginning of Ramadan, based on the findings of official moon-sighting committees and formal statements.
In contrast, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Iran announced that the current day corresponds to the 28th of Shaaban, stating that the crescent will be observed the following evening before officially determining whether Thursday or Friday will be the first day of the holy month.
