Morocco booked their place in the semifinals of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 after a tough and intense 1–0 victory over Syria in the quarterfinals, held on Thursday evening at Khalifa International Stadium in Al Rayyan.
The only goal of the match was scored by Azaro in the 79th minute, finishing a well-constructed play with a precise shot. The Syrian goalkeeper was undoubtedly the standout performer of the game, producing several brilliant saves that denied Morocco from widening the gap.
The closing minutes were filled with tension, as Moroccan player Moufidi was sent off in the 90+1 minute, making it even harder for the Atlas Lions to maintain their lead until the final whistle.
Despite Morocco’s dominance for large portions of the match, the strong Syrian defense and the exceptional performance of their goalkeeper made the victory far from easy. Still, the national team successfully secured their spot in the final four.
In the semifinals, Morocco will face the winner of the Algeria vs UAE match, a highly anticipated clash that could either set up an intense North African derby or a new challenge against a Gulf team.
