The 93rd General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) kicked off on Monday in Marrakech, bringing together top security officials and police chiefs from the 196 member states.
The opening session featured speeches by the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, and the President of Interpol, Major General Ahmed Nasser Al-Raisi.
The event was also attended by several high-ranking officials, including Minister of the Interior Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita, Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget Fouzi Lekjaa, Interpol Secretary General Valdesi Urquiza, Secretary General of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers Mohamed Ben Ali Koman, First President of the Court of Cassation Mohamed Abdennabaoui, Attorney General at the Court of Cassation Hicham Balaoui, and the General Delegate for Prison Administration Mohamed Salah Tamek.
A video presentation highlighting the evolution and modernization of Morocco’s security institutions was screened during the ceremony.
As the highest decision-making body within Interpol, the General Assembly represents the largest global gathering of law enforcement leaders. It serves as a strategic platform for strengthening international cooperation and sharing expertise among member states.
Hosting this major event reflects the prestigious standing of Morocco at the regional and international levels, under the visionary leadership of King Mohammed VI, as well as the credibility and trust enjoyed by Moroccan security institutions, particularly in combating terrorism and transnational organized crime.
The Marrakech session will address several key issues, including:
identifying and dismantling transnational organized crime networks;
combating cross-border fraud centers;
strengthening global policing capabilities;
promoting the role of women in law enforcement;
reviewing the outcomes of the pilot project “Silver Notice”;
supporting the ratification process of the UN Convention on Cybercrime.
The Assembly, running until November 27, will also elect new members of the Executive Committee, including a new President as the current term ends.
The General Assembly is responsible for adopting all major decisions related to Interpol’s general policies, international cooperation resources, working methods, finances, and activity programs.
