The Moroccan U20 national team made history by winning the FIFA U20 World Cup (Chile 2025), defeating Argentina 2–0 on Monday at the Julio Martínez Prádanos National Stadium in Santiago.
The Atlas Cubs wrote a new golden chapter in Moroccan football, producing a heroic performance filled with passion, tactical discipline, and offensive brilliance under coach Mohamed Wahbi.
Star striker Yasser Zbiri scored both goals in the 12th and 29th minutes, leading Morocco to its first-ever World Cup title. The match began with an early Moroccan chance in the 5th minute before Zbiri converted a free kick into the opening goal. Despite Argentina’s attempts to equalize, the Moroccan defense held firm, relying on rapid counterattacks — particularly down the right flank through Othmane Maâma, whose play led to the second goal.
In the second half, Argentina pushed hard but couldn’t find a way past goalkeeper Ibrahim Gomez. Substitutions, including Saad El Haddad, added energy and stability as Morocco managed the game smartly until the final whistle by Italian referee Maurizio Mariani.
This historic triumph crowns Morocco’s long-term vision for youth development, driven by the Mohammed VI Football Academy, now recognized as a leading institution for nurturing world-class talent and shaping the future of Moroccan football.
