The renowned Italian magazine Panorama stated that Tangier Med Port is no longer just an economic maritime facility, but has become a fully integrated system reshaping global trade routes and strengthening Morocco’s position as a strategic hub between Europe, Africa, and Asia.
The magazine highlighted that this giant Moroccan port, which includes industrial, logistics, and free zones, has succeeded in attracting massive investments and making West Africa a competitive center that reduces reliance on Northern European ports. Its expansion and efficiency reputation have made it a preferred destination for the world’s largest shipping companies, with the World Bank ranking it 3rd worldwide in performance.
The Tangier Med project, connected to more than 200 ports in 80 countries, has been achieved thanks to the vision and guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. It has been ranked the No. 1 port in Africa for the 8th consecutive year and the No. 1 port in the Mediterranean over the past five years, surpassing historic ports such as Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, and Piraeus.
Panorama also emphasized that Tangier Med is not only a logistics hub but also a laboratory for ecological transition and a showcase for Morocco’s ambitious goals in decarbonization and green hydrogen, making it an environmentally friendly port.
Looking ahead to 2030, the year of the FIFA World Cup hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, the report noted that expansion works on the passenger terminal are already underway, while cargo traffic continues to grow rapidly.
The magazine concluded that Tangier Med is no longer merely a transshipment platform but the beating heart of globalization, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean and Europe converges with Africa, once again shaping the future of international trade.
