Republican Congressman Joe Wilson, along with Democratic Congressman Jimmy Panetta, has introduced a resolution in the U.S. Congress calling for the designation of the Polisario Front as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, reflecting a growing stance against the group within American policymaking circles.
In a statement, Joe Wilson described the Polisario as a “Marxist militia supported by Iran, Hezbollah, and Russia,” asserting that it provides Iran with a strategic foothold in Africa and contributes to the destabilization of the Kingdom of Morocco, a U.S. ally for over 248 years.
The resolution is expected to be discussed in Congress amid increasing concerns over the Polisario’s regional role and the broader context of U.S.-Morocco relations, particularly in light of alleged ties between the group and entities considered security threats by Washington.
